Digboi College has marked the occasion of the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan by celebrating Lachit Diwas in a befitting manner for two days.
23rd November 2022:
A Cultural program to commemorate the birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan was organized at the college Auditorium from 1.00 pm.
The program started with Faculty members presenting one of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s immortal number- “MANUHE MANUHOR BABE” in the form of a chorus. This was followed by the inaugural speech of the principal Dr. Dip Saikia who gave a comprehensive account of Lachit Borphukan.
Dr. Mrinal Gogoi, Associate Professor, Department of Assamese, who was the distinguished speaker for the occasion, gave a critical analysis of the political as well as cultural background before and during the Saraighat war, highlighting the role of Lachit Borphukan. Mr. Karuna Phukan, Assistant Professor Department of Economics, gave an account of the life of Lachit Borphukan and his contribution to Assam. Miss Nikita Sharma, General Secretary, Digboi College Students Union, too delivered a speech on Lachit Borphukan.
Poems on Lachit Borphukan were recited by Dr. Sangita Baruah Saikia, Associate professor, Department of Geography, Miss Bhaswati Talukdar, Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy, Mr. Prakash Saikia, Head Assistant, and Rinki Likson, Student of Digboi College.
A duet song was performed by Mr. Jitu Borah, Assistant professor, Department of Political Science and Mr. Suraj Hajong, Assistant professor, Department of Economics. An instrumental piece on Bhupen Hazarika’s another famous song- “BRISTINNO PARORE …” was played on the mouth organ by Nayanjyoti Moran, Student, Digboi College . A beautiful dance performance was given by Sampriti Borthakur, Student, Digboi College. A drama performance was given by Kandarpa Gogoi, Anupam Mech, Raktim Boruah, Nandita Dutta and Rinki Likson who are all students of Centre for Performing Arts.
The cultural program was followed by a prize distribution ceremony of the Essay Competition held on the occasion of Lachit Borphukan.The program ended with an open Quiz on “ LAchit Borphukan” where both teachers and students participated. Nayanjyoti Moran acted as Quiz Master for the Program.

Dr. Janardhan Bora, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, has played the lead role of the organizing committee of the program. Everyone felt that students, teachers, and office staff mingled together and presented a truly memorable program.
