The department of Botany, Digboi College was established in 1965, and it receive permission from the competent authority to open major course in Botany undergraduate level on 23rd February 1988 and M.Sc. in Life Sciences under Dibrugarh University on 28th September 2021. Along with its regular academic exercises, the department also holds and shares the responsibility of research and extension activities regarding the identification, documentation & conservation of local flora. The department provides academic support to secondary-level students of neighboring educational institutions, an entrepreneurship development programme on Mushroom cultivation for women empowerment and local youth, technical help to apprentice trainees of IOCL, etc. On 12th February 2017, the department star college scheme from Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India for establishing a well equipped Plant tissue culture laboratory and to conduct various activities for students. In the last five years, the department has signed four functional MOU with various agencies.
